SO HERE’S THE DEAL, I’m a mess. I know I’ve thrown that declaration around a lot in the past, and I’ll admit, pretty recklessly. In taking inventory of the last handful of years, I can say with certainty that most of the times those words left my lips, either jokingly at a party or to my foggy post-shower reflection, I was unaware of just how bad things were going to get.

It’s hard not to think kind, parental thoughts about (and toward) Nic Collins. And, you don’t even have to know him. I don’t. But, I think of Nic like I think of Lady Gaga and the late Melinda Wilson: All three are thoughtfully and generously caring for older gentlemen whose glorious performing careers are all but behind them at this point, but each, thankfully, still have some “gas” left in their respective talent tanks.

Head to Duende. Fill your table with beautifully plated tapas (or larger plates if you must), peruse a book by Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, sip the house-made sangria. It was the perfect Saturday lunch to celebrate one of the few sunny days in the Upper Valley, though it could offer comfort on a gray winter’s day as well.
